Location : Prishtina, Kosovo

THEME: Infrastructure as Cultural Memory
PROCESS:  Material Harvesting + Adaptive Reuse
MATERIAL: Salvaged Steel, Brick, Space Frame Structures
RESULT: Cultural Preservation

This project examines materials in Kosovo through the lens of infrastructure, focusing on Pristina’s history shaped by its railway. Steel’s journey reflects shifts in political territory, trade, and migration. The site, an abandoned brick factory, preserves historic walls while reconfiguring harvested steel with deep historical value. Phase 1 research, shown in the first two images below, highlights broader railway studies in Pristina and steel’s significance. The community center fosters education as a form of mobility, creating spaces for debate, performance, and learning, with future-proof designs for expansion over 50 years. Reuse strategies repurpose steel into frames, facades, and furniture.
